My wife once confessed to be a bit jealous of the conversations I have with our daughter and the thing she tells me about her life and school, etc. I think sometimes parents assume that their only responsibilities towards their kids is to provide, protect, and teach that they ignore the importance of listening and just talking (not telling).
My daughter and I have has great conversations that haven't even be started by me. Staying open to listen makes her feel understood and valuable. It connects us deeply.
